Welcome to this part of the forum for Chemistry In The Atmosphere, an Inquiry Seminar for first year students at Linfield College, arguing against the proposition "Global warming is occurring but we cannot afford to do anything about it." We will argue the contrary: that is, in fact, we cannot afford to do nothing about it.
Here is a little bit about this course from our syllabus:
About This Course
This course examines the relationship between human activity and the chemistry within the atmosphere. We will focus on two phenomena within the atmosphere: the formation of the ozone hole, and the relation between the formation of greenhouse gases and global warming. As we learn about the chemistry of global warming, we will also explore how it overlaps with other disciplines and areas within our lives, including atmospheric chemistry, environmental science and public policy. We will explore the battle over eliminating compounds harmful to the ozone layer, and contrast that with the current debate over global warming. Should we act? If so, must we act right now? Who is right and who is wrong? Does right or wrong mean anything in this context? You will read, write, and debate. The sky is the limit!
